TL;DR. Add a video or audio file, pick a bitrate (192 kbps by default), optionally trim it, and save the MP3. Decoding is handled by your browser and encoding by the LAME MP3 encoder, all on your device.

How to convert MP4 to MP3

  1. Add a file

Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC or FLAC file into the drop zone. Video and audio files can be up to 500 MB.

  2. Choose the bitrate

Select 128, 192 or 320 kbps. 192 kbps is the default and suits most music and speech.

  3. Trim if needed

Enter how many seconds to cut from the start and the end, for example to drop an intro or silence.

  4. Download the MP3

Click Convert and save the file. Several results can be downloaded together with Download all (ZIP).

Your videos stay private

Your browser decodes the audio track and the LAME encoder turns it into MP3 inside the page. Home videos, lectures, interviews and voice memos never leave your device.

To confirm, open DevTools (F12 on Windows, Cmd+Option+I on Mac), switch to the Network tab and start the conversion. Only scripts from the same domain load, and there is no request carrying your file.

The tool converts files stored on your device. It does not download videos from websites or social networks.

Supported input formats

  • Video: MP4, MOV, WebM
  • Audio: M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC, FLAC
  • Output: MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps

How long can the audio be?

Conversion uses your device’s memory, so the practical limit depends on hardware. On a phone, plan for about 30 minutes of audio per file; on a computer, about an hour. For longer recordings, trim them into parts using the start and end fields.

Why convert audio to MP3

WAV and FLAC files are large, and formats like OGG or M4A are not supported by every car stereo, older player or messaging app. MP3 plays practically everywhere and keeps files compact, which makes it a safe choice for sharing voice notes, lectures, rehearsals and podcasts.

MP4 to MP3: frequently asked questions

MP3 is a lossy format, so it cannot be better than the source. At 192 or 320 kbps most listeners will not hear a difference from typical phone or camera audio. Converting a low-quality file at 320 kbps only makes it larger.

Yes. Add up to 20 files in one batch; each is converted with the same bitrate and trim settings. Use Download all (ZIP) to save every MP3 together.

Yes. Open the converter in Safari or Chrome on iPhone or Android, pick the video from your gallery or files, and save the MP3. Phones handle about 30 minutes of audio comfortably.

For speech and podcasts, 128 kbps is plenty. For music, 192 kbps is a good balance, and 320 kbps keeps the most detail at a larger file size. A higher bitrate cannot restore quality the original did not have.

Yes. Enter the number of seconds to trim from the beginning and from the end before converting. Only the remaining section is saved to MP3.

Video and audio files can be up to 500 MB each, up to 20 files per batch. Long recordings may also be limited by your device’s memory.
